Winner of Hauts de Rouen Aquatic Center
12.23 / Competition
Marc Mimram Architecture Ingénierie won the competition for the Hauts de Rouen aquatic center, for the city of Rouen, alongside Egis Bâtiments Centre-Ouest, Acoustb and Nebbia Paysage et territoire.
The proposed project for this facility gives off a simple and sober image but nevertheless offers a visible and remarkable building. It is through the work on the roof, which functions as a thermal and climatic regulation tool, that the project finds its orientation, its coherence and signals its presence. By its oblique position, its concave shape and its elevation, the roof determines the link established between the equipment and the topography, the interior beaches and the landscape.
The work on the envelope is based on a bioclimatic approach and promotes virtuous behavior of the building. The project is also based on the use of robust and durable but also geo or bio-sourced materials: wood for the framework and the underside of the hall, terracotta for the exterior treatment of the facade.
The Rouen aquatic center promotes this strong link with the landscape while establishing clear and generous conditions of use for all audiences, for the learning of swimming for all, the pleasure and fulfillment of everyone in their practices and their relationship to water. This aquatic facility marks a decisive development of the site that here hosts a project which is about to become a metropolitan destination.
