The Jin Liu Lu Bridge followed on from the Zhong Sheng Da Dao Bridge. The approach here was to find a solution that related to the latter, so instead of opaque massiveness we started from hollowed-out surfaces.
The line of arches is exactly the same, but here the inertia is qualified by the voids, by the distance between the deck and the variable ribbon.
This ribbon is formed of a doubleskin steel surface, the side wings of which vary in size, rising and curving, echoing the static scheme and responding to the direction of gravitational forces. Instead of a raised mass, a concrete continuum floating on the lake’s horizon, here we see a steel leaf framing empty spaces through which can be seen the ever-changing play of light. The double curvature of the steel sheets draws on techniques from the shipbuilding industry, the metalwork of the arches evoking another kind of floatation.
